History of Updates to the CRC pages

I added the CRC section of my web site to display my photos of the Camp Robinson Crusoe reunion in 1999. Then I expanded the section to include some of my old black and white photos from my camp years. Then I added some stories and recollections of various events that occurred to me as either a camper or a counselor in training. And then it continued to grow from there.

Here is a history of significant additions to the CRC section of my web site, with the most recent additions first:

October 10, 2020: The page Group Photo, Senior Boys, 1954 was updated to properly identify Marc Shulman, and to tentatively re-identify Ian Arbarbanel.

August 2, 2019: The Documentary première page was edited to note that filmmaker Bruce Butcher has confirmed that copies of the CRC DVD are still available, and the order forms were updated with his new address (links on the documentary page are provided to order forms in either HTML or Microsoft Word .doc format).

April 6, 2014: The Documentary première page was edited to reflect the fact that this première, and the associated reunion weekend, has now taken place. Links were provided to an order form, in either HTML or Microsoft Word .doc format, to allow people who had not attended the première to order the DVD.

August, 2013 - March, 2014: Frequent updates to the CRC starting page and the Documentary première page announcing and planning for the documentary of bruce Butcher's documentary film, Camp Robinson Crusoe, My Heart Will Always Here Belong.

December 20, 2012: The page on Bob Hill was updated to correct the year of his death. Bob died in 2004, not 2003 as the page previously reported.

December 16, 2012: The dates reported for the summers of operation of the camp in Maine were adjusted, per information received from Ditte Frederiksen McNeil. The Maine years had been erroneously listed; they were actually 1929 - 1931.

December 11, 2012: A page was added to report on Recent research on the Maine camp's location. The CRC starting page, and other links were adjusted accordingly.

July 7, 2012: Work continues on the CRC documentary. New information has been posted, and the pages have been re-arranged a bit for ease of navigation. The page entitled A documentary about Camp Robinson Crusoe is the documentary home page, and Making the CRC documentary will contain an ongoing chronological record of events (I won't necessarily comment on this update page every time something is added there).

As of 7/7/12, the last item added was a report on that day's initial documentary kickoff meeting, held in Sturbridge. It contains a few photos of the meeting, and links to a page of larger photos. 7/10/12: an additional photo, of the walking tour, was added to both those pages.

June 25, 2012: Added a page on a documentary on CRC which is being contemplated.

June 4, 2012: Based on information from Robert Handloff, I updated the page showing the Group Photo, Senior Boys, 1954, which I had previously thought to be a photo of the Intermediate Boys in 1952.

February 4, 2012: I added a schedule for the 1999 reunion at Camp Taconic, and comments on the 1999 reunion by attendees. These were pages on Donna Lewis's "official" CRC web site that I had not originally imported. There is now also a link to Donna Lewis's personal CRC pages (with lots of photos - scroll down to see them all). Links to all the above are included on the CRC Starting Page.

January 31, 2012: Donna Lewis's "official" CRC web site at the URL http://camprobinsoncrusoe.com was merged into this site. The essential contents are linked to from the CRC Starting page by the links "Some photos from the 60's" (in the category "Photos and stories from the camp"), "The 1997 reunion at Alan Rogoff's house" (in the category "Past reunions of former campers"), and "The camp site just prior to the 1999 Camp Taconic reunion" (in the category "The camp land in more recent times").

January 30, 2012: Added a page showing two old CRC postcards, sent to me by Ditte Frederiksen McNeil.

August 3, 2011: I re-did the CRC Starting Page, in preparation for merging these pages with Donna Lewis's "official" CRC web site. This entailed the addition of the page "About the CRC web site, and about me". I also added the page "What was your "group" at CRC?", to help people specify their camp "cohort". However, although the CRC Starting Page was substantially changed, most of the actual content of the site has not been altered.

July 25, 2009: Rearranged the links on the CRC Starting Page, and changed the wording a bit for clarity.

May 17, 2009: Added a page with a picture of the main house, and pictures of the camp lakes. Added some photos to the page on Bob Hill.

May 6, 2009: Added Bob Briere's report on the Sturbridge Annual Town Meeting of April 27, 2009.

April 20, 2009: Added a topographic map to the map of the camp page.

April 19, 2009: Added a page of photos from CRC in Maine, the summers of 1930 - 1932. Added a map of the camp in Sturbridge.

April 15, 2009: Added additional pages on Bob Hill, and on Nancy and Nils Frederiksen. Like the page with additional information on Josh and Leah, these are linked to from the "What was camp Robinson Crusoe?" page.

In my page on the July 6, 2006 visit, added a note on the use of bunk 2 by the Underground Railway. Added a comment by Josh Hill on the ballfield flooding. Added a note on water running over the "spillway" section of the road.

April 12, 2009: Updated the page on the proposal to remove the lakes, and added a report on the April 11, 2009 walk-through.

April 7, 2009: Split the "What was Camp Robinson Crusoe" page into two pages, adding additional photos of Josh and Leah Lieberman received from Ditte Frederiksen McNeill.

March 23, 2009: Updated the the CRC Starting Page to add a CRC logo at the upper-left. Added a page on the Hamant Brook Restoration Project. Added a page about Donna Lewis's CRC Facebook group.

March 20, 2009: Updated the the CRC Starting Page to reflect an anticipated reunion in July, 2010. This involved creating a new page on the anticipated reunion, and updating the page on Planting Weekend.

January 4, 2008: Added a photo of a Bust-up skit from the early 1940's, sent to me by Jim Lacey.

August 10, 2007: Improved the "Computer Camp" page by adding comments from Kathy Taylor.

August 3, 2007: Added a link to the text of the advertisement for bids for the demolition of the camp buildings, which appeared in the Southbridge Evening News on Friday, August 3, 2007.

August 2, 2007: Added a page asking the burning question, Was Robinson Crusoe the world's first "Computer Camp"?

August 1, 2007: Additional photos were added that were taken on a tour of the camp grounds conducted as part of the July 21, 2007 joint town/camper meeting.

July 23, 2007: An initial report was posted on the July 21, 2007 joint meeting of the Sturbridge Public Lands Advisory Committee, representatives of various other Sturbridge committees, and a group of ex-CRC campers.

July 8, 2007: With the receipt of some great photos from Lee and Rich Snider, I added additional information about the the camp's founding, and about Josh and Leah Lieberman, to my About Camp Robinson Crusoe page. I also posted a couple of additional photos of Rich and Lee (then called Gerry).

June 30, 2007: I added an update on the activities of the Town of Sturbridge Public Lands Advisory Committee, and the upcoming July 21, 2007 meeting of that committee, on the page, The Camp Robinson Crusoe land. I slightly re-arranged the links on the CRC Starting Page, and added a link to Mike Cohen's page on The Shanty Boys page.

February 2, 2007: Changed the page on Planting Weekend, 2007 to report its cancellation, and to explain the reasons. I also added a page on the gong on the CRC commons.

August 3, 2006: Added some photos to the page on the July 6, 2006 visit to the site of the former camp. These were taken by Bob Handloff on his May 27, 2006 visit. Improved the appearance of the Planting Weekend, 2007 page, by adding some of Bob's photos from that same visit.

August 2, 2006: Added an initial page on Planting Weekend, 2007.

July 29, 2006: Improved the satellite view page by adding a map taken from Google Maps, with a lake-by-lake description to the left.

July 24, 2006: Moved into a separate page a description of how to see a satellite view of the site of the camp using Google Maps, improved it a bit, and linked to it from the CRC Starting Page.

July 19, 2006: Added a description, with photographs, of a July 6, 2006 visit to the site of the former camp. The land has now been purchased by the Town of Sturbridge, and the buildings, which are collapsing and hazardous, will be torn down. My web pages were also re-arranged to allow them to be more easily expanded in the future (links to the various sections were removed from the bottom of most pages, and brought together to a single place, at the top of the CRC Starting Page).

February 20, 2006: Having now identified all the members of the group, I've added notes and links to the photo of The Shanty Boys.

July 27, 2002: General improvements to the main CRC page, including a link to the "CRC Home page" using their large button. Some names added, and name misspellings corrected. A link back to my home page was added on the main pages. The page What was Camp Robinson Crusoe? was added, for the benefit of browsers who are not familiar with the camp.

December 12, 1999: The Motley Girls - page 2 and The Motleys together - page 1 were added.

November 25, 1999: Additional camp photos were added, remembering Steve Kaplan, plus photos of the presentation of the play "Kiss Me, Kate" by the Super Senior Girls in 1955.

September 8-12, 1999: Black and White photos and camp stories added.

August 30, 1999: Page originated, with color photos of the reunion held at Camp Taconic in the Berkshires August 28 and 29. Back in 1999, these photos were taken with a conventional 35mm film camera. I dropped the film to be developed on the way back home from the reunion, ordered a CD-ROM of the scanned photos along with the developing, and picked them up and posted the photos the next day.
